Preserving 50 Years of Faith, Education & Community in East London

Quwwat-ul-Islam has served generations of families in Forest Gate, Newham and East London since 1975. Support the Masjid today.

Why Your Donation Matters

A Legacy Built by the Community

For many families, Quwwat-ul-Islam is where their parents prayed, where their children learned Qur'an, where Jumu'ah brought the community together, and where generations of Indian Gujarati Muslims in East London found belonging.

Quwwat-ul-Islam began in 1975 by hiring a hall for Jumu'ah prayer and Madrasa. As the community grew, dedicated members worked together to establish a permanent home in Forest Gate. Today, that same responsibility passes to us — we inherited this Masjid through the sacrifice of those before us. Now it is our duty to preserve it for our children, our elders and the generations still to come.

Our Journey

Over Fifty Years of Service

1975

The Beginning

Quwwat-ul-Islam Society was founded, commencing by hiring a hall in Trinity Church Hall, East Street, Manor Park. The primary purpose was to provide a place for Jumu'ah (Friday) prayer and a Madrasa for Muslim children in the local community.

1984

First Property

As the community grew and demand increased, key community members took the courage to purchase a property on the corner of Upton Lane and Skelton Road — a significant milestone in establishing a permanent home.

1986

The Masjid is Born

The community purchased a warehouse at 62–66 Upton Lane, Forest Gate — the site of the existing Masjid. This was a major step that enabled the Society to build a solid foundation from which to grow.

1999

Expanding Education

The community purchased the bakery land behind the Masjid at 16 Chaucer Road, Forest Gate, with the sole purpose of providing girls' school education — a visionary investment in the next generation.

2003

Girls' Primary School

With the help of Allah and support from the community, Quwwat-ul-Islam Girls' School (Primary) was established, beginning with 50 pupils. Within two years enrolment had grown to 112 students.

2005

Secondary School

The organisation took another giant step by establishing a Secondary school — both schools fully registered with Ofsted and following the national curriculum with an Islamic ethos.

2006

Alimah Education

Quwwat-ul-Islam Society initiated Alimah education for girls — a seven-year course running Monday to Friday, 5–8pm. The programme now serves approximately 110 students each year.
